Chartwell Agency Creates “We’ve Got to Keep Poking” Campaign for Rock River Valley Blood Center

Chartwell Agency, an award-winning marketing firm based in northern Illinois, announced its continued partnership with the Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) in launching the “We’ve Got to Keep Poking,” a multi-channel awareness and donor engagement campaign designed to address critical blood shortages in the region.

With less than 2 percent of eligible donors in the area currently giving blood, RRVBC collaborated with Chartwell to develop a campaign that highlights the urgent need for donations while educating the community about the life-saving impact each donor can make.

The “We’ve Got to Keep Poking” concept plays on the dual meaning of “poking”: the literal poke from the needle used in blood donation and the metaphorical poke required to keep raising awareness and encouraging people to donate.

The campaign spans multiple communication channels to ensure widespread reach and engagement:

  • Website Enhancements: Campaign banners, monthly campaign specific content, and user experience to better guide donors.
  • Email Marketing: Targeted emails to launch the campaign, share donation facts, highlight events, and provide easy calls-to-action.
  • Direct Mail & Print: Donor mailer cards and print ads to reinforce campaign messages.
  • Public Relations: Media toolkit that included local blood donation facts and press releases for blood drives to encourage community engagement.
  • Creative Design: Monthly campaign specific graphics, seasonal campaign specific assets, blood drive and event graphics, and branded social media graphics

Together, RRVBC and Chartwell are working to increase donor turnout and strengthen awareness of the ongoing need for blood. The “We’ve Got to Keep Poking” campaign provides the tools and visibility needed to inspire more people to donate and in turn, save lives across the Rock River Valley.
