Tips for Credit Union Marketing Teams to Boost Brand and Business

,

We just wrapped up an amazing week in Nashville for the 2023 Marketing Association of Credit Unions (MAC) Conference. The annual event brings together credit union marketing teams from across the country to network, learn from industry experts, and have a bit of fun, too. The goal of our time at MAC was to connect with credit union marketing teams to learn more about their unique challenges, discover emerging trends, and provide solutions and new opportunities for our current and prospective credit union clients. From rebranding and loan generation campaigns to social media strategy and website development, our conversations were diverse – but we discovered a few trends and common themes throughout our time at MAC.

Here is that list, along with some tips for credit union marketing teams to help give your credit union marketing the boost it may need:

Rethink content strategy.

Think beyond creative writing. Credit union marketing teams must have a search engine optimization (SEO)-first approach to website content. SEO is the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic coming from relevant Google searches. To outperform competitors and capture prospective members that are in the market for the products and services you offer, your credit union marketing team must rethink its website content strategy. User experience is essential.

When a current or prospective new member visits your credit union website, what is their experience? Are they able to easily find what they are seeking? Are you providing solutions to their challenges? Are there various ways in which they can connect with your team? Are the calls to action relevant and accessible? Your credit union website is your largest branch so invest in the experience it can – and should – offer. Get started with a user experience audit to maximize the effectiveness of your website and earn more business. Rebranding is on fire!

For the second year in a row, credit union rebranding was a hot topic at MAC. And we weren’t surprised (Chartwell is currently in the midst of two rebranding projects for credit union clients!). Many credit union brands are aging and may no longer accurately reflect or resonate with the growing membership base. The solution for many is bridging the gap between where they are today and where they want to go through rebranding. When discussing whether a rebrand is something your credit union should consider, don’t start with a blank piece of paper. Rather, leverage what you do well and build momentum. Make it simple, relevant, and memorable. You can find additional considerations for a rebrand from this recent vlog.

At Chartwell, our team is uniquely equipped and structured to help credit unions grow their bottom line through more strategic marketing and communications, and we have a lot of fun in the process! We are thinkers and doers and can provide extra hands during times of transition or we can dedicate a consistent level of support to become an extension of your credit union marketing team.
