Improving Healthcare Access and Outcomes Through Illinois AHEC Website
The Illinois Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is dedicated to improving healthcare access and outcomes by cultivating a diverse, community-based healthcare workforce and strengthening the connection between education and service across Illinois. With a focus on both urban neighborhoods and rural communities, Illinois AHEC plays a critical role in ensuring that all residents, especially those who are geographically isolated, economically disadvantaged, or medically vulnerable, have access to quality healthcare.
Federally funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Illinois AHEC supports the training and placement of healthcare professionals across the state, bridging gaps in access and equity.
Solution
After Chartwell Agency successfully developed the website for the Illinois AHEC Scholars Program microsite, the organization recognized the opportunity to expand that success statewide with a full website redesign. The goal: to create a modern, intuitive, and cohesive digital experience that better serves students, educators, and community partners.
Chartwell partnered closely with Illinois AHEC’s leadership and regional network members to:
- Develop a user-friendly, mobile-responsive website showcasing all statewide programs.
- Create an interactive map allowing users to easily find programs and resources within their region.
- Design dedicated landing pages for each of the nine regional centers to provide localized details and contact information.
- Add a dynamic news and events hub to highlight workshops, updates, and community success stories.
Outcomes
The result is a sleek, modern, and fully functional website (www.ilahec.uic.edu) that strengthens AHEC’s digital presence and improves how users engage with its statewide network.
The refreshed site enhances navigation, increases accessibility, and provides a clear, organized path for students to learn about programs and connect directly with center directors. Through this digital transformation, Illinois AHEC can more effectively showcase its mission, attract future healthcare professionals, and expand its impact on healthcare access.
