Discovery Center Museum Rebrands and Launches User-Friendly Website to Elevate Family Engagement

For over 40 years, the Discovery Center Museum has been one of the region’s most popular family attractions, offering an engaging hands-on interactive space for exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), art, and more. Exhibit galleries focus on the human body, forms of electricity, the science of sports, space travel, simple machines, communication, agriculture, color and light, and math. With more than 300 exhibits spanning 23,000 square feet across two floors, the top-ranked children’s museum has plenty of opportunities for playful learning and family fun.

As the organization looked to the future, it was faced with challenges of an outdated logo and website that hindered its ability to effectively engage visitors and promote its experiences. The organization wanted an identity as fresh as its evolving exhibits and needed a website that would set the standard for excellence in visitor experience. It also recognized a growing need to align its online presence to the changing needs and preferences of modern families. Solution

Chartwell Agency partnered with the Discovery Center Museum to refresh its brand and create a new website that helped the organization reflect the look and feel of one of the nation’s top-ranked children’s museum, streamline website user experience, and improve access to vital information for visitors.

The identity refresh was designed to leverage the brand equity in the Discovery Center Museum logo, updating it to reinforce a focus on fun, learning, and community. The feeling of excitement and enthusiasm in the refreshed logo served as inspiration in development of the new website.

One of the primary objectives for a website redesign was to enhance the online visitor experience. The first step was to streamline the website’s architecture, ensuring intuitive navigation to information, exhibits, event resources, and more. An SEO audit informed online content including keyword mapping, and meta writing to improve organic Google rankings.

The design now presents a visual experience and focuses on easy access to visitor information, exhibits, programs, and classes. The “mobile-first” approach caters to mobile user expectations and viewing preferences, guaranteeing a consistent and optimized experience across devices. Additionally, the site provides ease of use for museum staff as a priority, allowing their team to easily manage ongoing content creation and maintenance.

The new site reflects the playful learning central to the Discovery Center Museum experience and helps families from near and far plan their visit.
