Communications Strategist
Position Overview
Chartwell Agency is seeking a marketing project-focused Communications Strategist to join its amazing team of professionals. The chosen candidate will be expected to hit the ground running and lead, manage, and produce a host of marketing projects with the agency’s trademark can-do attitude. This is a hybrid role that requires in-person meetings, so our ideal candidate should be within a reasonable driving distance of our office in Rockford, IL.
We’re looking for a strategic thinker who is not afraid to jump in and manage projects which may include website development, branding, marketing campaigns, commercial production, photo shoots, multi-channel paid digital campaigns, and more. This position requires a skilled strategist as well as a confident tactician.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The project strategist will be responsible for:
- Planning, organizing, coordinating, collaborating, and leading diverse marketing projects.
- Creating a variety of client deliverables, which may include market research, developing and presenting creative concepts, writing copy for various applications, and assisting in website production.
- Assisting in defining the scope of projects and estimating and managing client budgets.
- Creating and driving project plans and timelines to ensure that key project milestones are met, projects move efficiently through the creative process, and final deliverables meet and exceed client expectations.
- Facilitating strong collaboration and communication across the internal and client teams, including leading client meetings and project discovery sessions.
- Providing leadership for project team by supporting members in understanding individual responsibilities, meeting established milestones, and delivering exceptional work.
- Advising the project and leadership teams on schedules, resources, and budgets, handling competing or shifting priorities, as needed.
- Working creatively and analytically to anticipate and address challenges, building on Chartwell’s problem-solving culture of teamwork, innovation and excellence.
- Understanding and supporting the creative process for a variety of projects.
- Supporting consistent use of agency tools for project management, communication, budgeting, and reporting.
- Staying abreast of emerging technologies, methods, and best practices.
Experience and Qualifications
To be successful, the project strategist will have or have experience in/with:
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or related field
- 7+ years of professional experience leading projects or teams on marketing deliverables. Creative agency experience is highly valued.
- Strong research and writing skills
- Strong project management, organization, communication, and relationship development skills
- Familiarity with website development including site architecture, content strategy, and user experience
- Knowledge of WordPress and common website builders like Elementor and Divi.
- Familiarity with concepting, storyboarding, and managing video projects.
- Experience with digital initiatives and multi-channel marketing campaigns.
- Copywriting for a host of deliverables including websites, marketing collateral, and digital advertising.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, high-energy, and articulate individual capable of setting and delivering results while managing multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail oriented, and familiarity with print, web, and other digital mediums are a must. This Communications Strategist candidate should have 7+ years of professional marketing experience. The salary ranges from $65,000 – $70,000 + benefits.

We’re looking for a strategic thinker who is not afraid to jump in and support a variety of marketing and public relations projects. The right person will be responsible for leading or assisting with client accounts and will be adept at building relationships, achieving results, and offering thoughtful counsel. In exchange, the ideal candidate will benefit from a supportive, collaborative, and creative team environment in which his/her skills will be valued and continuously expanded. Experience in areas including strategic planning, content strategy, social media, creative campaigns, ad buys (traditional and digital), and proactive media relations at a local, regional, and national level are a top priority. Strong writing capabilities for both short- and long-copy is imperative.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, high-energy, and articulate individual capable of setting and delivering results while managing multiple projects and deadlines. The Communications Specialist candidate should have 2+ years of internships and/or marketing or public relations experience. The salary ranges from $50,000 – $60,000 + benefits.
