AI in the Creative Industry
The use of AI in creative work is all the buzz. My information channels have been filled with the excitement and demonstration of the new tools. Adobe, the leading software company for creatives, is equipping their products with new AI features that will most certainly revolutionize and streamline how we produce creative content. There is some really cool stuff happening! Alongside all this excitement though is a sense of unease. I keep hearing “this is the end of designers.” I couldn’t disagree more. The same comments are said every time there is a giant step forward in how we do things. Computers were supposed to replace me ages ago, but I’m still here. Having been in this industry through many technological changes, this advancement is just another evolution in the tools we have at our disposal.
AI is surely going to allow us to expedite a lot of things creatively. (Read my coworker’s blog on the AI creative process for more insight into this kind of impart.) The thing it can’t replace is the human component. AI needs you to tell it what to do. What to imagine. What to create. We are the holders of these seeds of ideas. We are also the keepers of relationships and experiences. A good analogy is to think of AI like a tin man. He’s a machine made of parts and data. Efficient, but lacking a heart.
